Topeka is the capital of Kansas and is located along the Kansas River.

The Kansas State Capitol is a historic building and the seat of government for the state. It has also been referred to as the Kansas Statehouse. It is one of the city’s top attractions. The dome of the capital is 304 feet high and is one of the few state capitol buildings in the U.S. offering dome tours. The tour starts on the fifth floor and then visitors climb the 265 steps to the top. You can also take a historic tour of all five floors of the building.

Lake Shawnee is a man-made lake offering visitors plenty of water activities. You can enjoy boating, fishing, and swimming. Other activities include golfing, tennis, and camping. There are lovely gardens and large open areas, the Garden House, the Reynolds Lodge, and shelter houses for picnics. There is a children’s playground, sand volleyball courts, a swimming beach with a water slide, and tennis courts.
